SWFL Crime Stoppers honored for productivity, community outreach

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers recently announced that its program was honored with two awards at the 34th annual training conference of the Southeastern Crime Stoppers Association held in Williamsburg, Virginia.

The local program was lauded as the most productive program of its size in the entire Southeastern United States. Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers has received this award for eight consecutive years.

The program was also awarded its "Most Creative Advertising" award for the weekly segments that are produced in house at the Lee County Sheriff's Office, focusing on unsolved crimes throughout the five-county area.

The segments are produced at zero extra cost to Crime Stoppers, and are written by coordinator Trish Routte and edited by Deputy Joseph Heuglin.

LCEC awarding environmental funds

LCEC is accepting applications from organizations for an environmental funding award.

To apply, e-mail to receive an application.

The deadline for the 2014 applications is Sept. 1.

Organizations must meet certain criteria to be considered for the award including being located within LCEC service territory, funding utilized for projects/programs related to the environment and the utility industry and having a demonstrated need for funds.
