At 11:22 p.m. May 25, the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to 1064 N. Tamiami Trail, Apt. 83, North Fort Myers, in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck and a woman that had been injured during the altercation. The victims were transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was inside a room when an unknown man came to the door. The man identified himself as law enforcement and ordered the woman to open the door.
Once the door was opened, the man subject burst in, forcing the woman back into the room. The man punched the woman in the face and struck her in the face with a firearm.
A short time later, the man returned and entered the room. As he entered, the victim got into a brief altercation with the man, who was attacking the woman. The man shot the victim in the neck and fled.
During the investigation, detectives were able to identify a possible suspect. They met the man at a location in Lehigh Acres and based upon the investigation, Alexander Demetrius Woolbright was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated battery
- Felony battery
- Armed burglary
- Impersonating a law enforcement officer
