Edward Joseph Boone, 75, of Lehigh Acres, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014. He was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Colebrook, Ohio, to Rankin "Jack" and Sophie Boone.

He graduated from Grand Valley High School in Ohio in 1958.

On Aug 29, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart and soul mate. He was the loving husband of Judith Ann (Shetler) Boone for 55 years.

Shortly after the marriage, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served a 20-year career (1958-78). During that time, he received the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service in ground operations against hostile forces in Vietnam (1966-67) and the Meritorious Service Award for NCOIC of the military police detachment at the U.S. Hospital Camp OJI, Japan (1969).

After retiring, he relocated his family to Fort Myers and began working for the State Attorney's Office as an investigator for the 20th Judicial Circuit (1978-2003).

After retirement, he enjoyed his time golfing, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

He was a magnificent man with a loving family and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife; sisters, Donna, Diane and Judy; brother, Daniel; father-in-law, Howard Shetler; brothers-in-law, Howard Jr. and Mike; sister-in-law, Mary; children, Pat (Tina), Jimmy, Dede (Jon), Terri (Danny) and Wendy (Kenny); 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jack and Sophie Boone; brother, Jack Boone; and mother-in-law, Betty Shetler.

Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. The family is not receiving visitors nor conducting a service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Lee County Humane Society.
