Boathouse to try beach snack stand

By Staff | Jun 24, 2014

In response to requests from beachgoers at the Cape Coral Yacht Club in recent weeks, the Boathouse Tiki Bar & Grill is working out details to operate a snack stand at the beach on weekends starting on the Fourth of July weekend.

“We’re waiting on permission from the city powers that be so we can test those waters,” said Boathouse General Manager Mickey Sperry. “We’re looking at a hot dog/hamburger stand with sodas and water somewhere near the restaurant.”

As the exclusive food vendor for the beach, Sperry said they are deciding what items to make available so beachgoers can have a cheaper alternative to the full menu service at the Boathouse.

“I think this will work well,” Sperry said. “We retained the hot dog cart lady for the Memorial Day weekend after we opened the bar. She did well with sales and we did well, so there is room for this kind of thing.”

Depending on how well the snack stand idea is received by beachgoers, the Boathouse expects to do more.

“We’re still growing into our space,” said Sperry. “We’re here for the long haul. Perhaps some time down the road we could put a stand at the pavilion, which would be a nice upgrade.”

In season the snack stand idea could become a daily service, according to Sperry.
