A Cape Coral driver has been released from the hospital after crashing head-on into a tree.

As of Friday, Chrystle Antonia Russo, 31, had been discharged from Lee Memorial Hospital, where she was transported Sunday afternoon, June 15, following the accident in the 3200 block of Skyline Boulevard.

According to police, Russo was traveling northbound in a Kia Soul in the outside lane. At 3:48 p.m., the vehicle drifted to the right for unknown reasons and exited the roadway at 3215 Skyline Blvd. The Kia ran into the mailboxes at that address before continuing northbound for approximately 210 feet.

It then struck a tree head-on in the front yard of 3207 Skyline Blvd., spun and came to a stop.

While on scene, Russo appeared to have non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. While en route to the hospital, she was upgraded to a trauma-alert with life-threatening critical injuries.

Police stated that it was unknown at the time if the accident was alcohol or drug related.

The case is pending further investigation.
