East County Regional announces upcoming activities

The roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adults

- Chess Anyone?

4 p.m. July 21 and 28

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome! Bring your own chess set or use one of ours. This program is provided by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.

- English Cafe

6 p.m. July 21 and 28

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary

- Knitting Nook

5 p.m. July 23

A fun, casual group of knitters and crocheters getting together to share project and technique ideas. Please note that this group is not facilitated by a professional knitting instructor. It is intended for group members to learn from each other. Some materials will be provided for newcomers or bring a project to work on. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.

- Intro to Painting Techniques

11 a.m. July 26

Join award-winning local artist June as she demonstrates four types of painting mediums and answers questions about techniques and products. Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at any or all of the painting mediums during class. June encourages participants to bring their "masterpieces in progress" to class for some advice and direction. All supplies provided. Registration is requested.

- Greenways & Blueways in Lee County

2 p.m. July 26

John Kiseda, Lee County Environmental Educator, will present information on green spaces and thoughts on what part the environment plays in our quality of life in SW Florida. Information will include the "Conservation 2020" program of land acquisition and the "Great Calusa Blueway" paddling trail here in Lee County. Registration is requested.

- Family Storytime

10 a.m. July 17

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.

Children

- Family Storytime

10 a.m. July 17

Fizz! Boom! Read! During the summer, this special storytime includes a craft. It's fun for the whole family!

- Kids Read Down Fines

3-4 p.m. July 26

4:30-5:30 p.m. July 30

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.
