Early voting for primary election begins

August 20, 2014
Lehigh Acres Citizen

Eight days of early voting for the Primary Election began Saturday and runs through Saturday, Aug. 23, at the 11 elections offices throughout Lee County.

In Lehigh Acres, there are two early voting sites - East County Regional Library, 881 Gunnery Road, and Veterans Park Recreation Center, 55 S. Homestead Road.

In neighboring Cape Coral, there are three locations: the Cape Coral Branch Office at 1031 S.E. 9th Place, behind the Lee County building plus both the Cape Coral Public Library, 921 S.W. 39th Terrace, and the Northwest Regional Library, 519 Chiquita Blvd.

The Lee County Elections Center is at 13180 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers. Other early voting locations include offices in south county, Bonita Springs, Estero and North Fort Myers.

Hours for early voting are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day and registered voters may cast a ballot at any location.

Election Day is Aug. 26 and polls throughout the county will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Don't let the fact that it's a primary lull you into postponing your vote until November. There are key seats up for grabs and, especially at the county level, it's a pivotal election.

The three school board races are non-partisan and countywide, meaning every registered voter can cast a ballot, no matter party affiliation, no matter the district in which they live.

Among the partisan primaries, two are "universal," meaning they are open to all registered voters as there are no candidates lined up for the General Election in November. These races, for Lee County Commission District 2 and State Senate District 30, will be decided Aug. 26.

For those still seeking information on the primary, the races and the candidates, you may find election information in print and online at: Online, Citizen readers may find all of our election stories under "community news" or consolidated under Election 2014 at:, a sister website.

We invite you to read. And we urge you to vote. Primary elections do matter.
