Mary Lou (Funderburg) Bennett

Mary Lou (Funderburg) Bennett, 83, of Lehigh Acres, died Wednesday, Sept 24, 2014, at Hope Hospice, with her family by her side. She was born in Huntington, Indiana.

She married the love of her life, Burton Bennett, on Sept 9, 1950.

She graduated from Huntington High School and was attending Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, when she met Burt.

During their 64 years of marriage, she lovingly cared for their family, served alongside her husband in ministry and owned an RV business in Mishawaka, Indiana, and Leesburg, Florida, after moving there in 1980.

She had a lifelong love of music and sang in the church choir most of her life.

Her family enjoyed camping with special evenings around the campfire. She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their motorhome and was known for sending cards to those she cared for.

She was a member of the Alva United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband; children, David (Debbie) Bennett of Tuckasegee, North Carolina, Connie (Larry) Kurtz of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve Bennett of Lehigh Acres and Stan (Debi) Bennett of South Bend, Indiana; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Hope Hospice for their compassion care.

A celebration of her life was held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at the Alva United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Cotten officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The Burton & Mary Bennett Scholarship Fund, Huntington University, 2303 College Ave, Huntington, IN 46750.
