Caloosahatchee Regional Park events

Caloosahatchee Regional Park, at 18500 N. River Road, Alva, presents the following:

- Animal Tracks Preschool Program: March 4 from 10-11:30 a.m.

Preschoolers will learn to look for tracks and signs animals leave behind in nature. Read a book, make animal tracks to take home, play a game and go on a hike to find animal tracks and signs. Meet at the entrance at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $5 per preschooler; a parking fee required. Registration is required.

- Oxbow Kayak Clinic:?March 5 from 9-11 a.m.

Learn the basic techniques of paddling, then have the opportunity to use your new skills for a guided trip. Paddle the oxbow islands of the Caloosahatchee River for a two-hour guided and informational tour. The tour is perfect for all ages and abilities. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided; bring your own water, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the entrance at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $25 per person. Registration is required.

- Guided Nature Walk: March 7 and 17 from 9-11 a.m.

Join park staff on a stroll through natural plant communities. Participants should be able to walk approximately one and a half miles. Dress appropriately and bring a water bottle. Meet at the entrance at 18500 N. River Road. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Program is free with paid parking. Limit of 25 participants; groups of five or more, call ahead.

- Cypress Creek Kayak Tour: March 12 from 9-11 a.m.

This slow-paced paddle is great for all experience levels. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided; bring your own water, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the entrance at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $25 per person. Registration is required.

- Fishing Home School Program: March 19 from 8-10 a.m.

Home school students will learn to identify Florida fish, about sustainable fishing and test their casting skills in the Caloosahatchee. Fishing equipment and bait provided. Meet at the entrance at 19130 N. River Road. For ages 8-18. Cost is $5 per student; a parking fee is required. Registration is required.

- Caloosahatchee to Hickey's Creek Kayak Trip: March 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This kayak trip begins and ends at the Caloosahatchee Regional Park campground. The guided tour travels along the Great Calusa Blueway, which includes Hickey's Creek. Paddle an hour and a half to Hickey's Creek Mitigation Park, eat lunch and stretch our legs on a hike before paddling back to Caloosahatchee Regional Park. Trip is best for paddlers with some kayaking experience and/or in good physical condition for a five-mile roundtrip paddle. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided; bring your own water, lunch, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the entrance at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $40 per person. Registration is required.
