Appreciation owed to FPL, Hendry and more

By Staff | Mar 11, 2015

To the editor:

What a day at the Barron Park House in LaBelle today, March 3. Volunteers from FPL and Hendry County came together with the Arts of the Inland to paint, scrape, rake, trim, power wash, plant, mulch and improve the Barron Park House and its grounds. The Arts of the Inland wants to extend to all of you our heartfelt thanks and appreciation. Without your assistance, we could not have accomplished so much.

FPL approached Hendry County with an offer to supply volunteers for worthy projects in the County. The Arts of the Inland responded with the above project at the Barron Park House and it was accepted for the 2015 FPL Cares Day. Twenty very able, ambitious and conscientious workers from Florida Power & Light led by Charlotte Miller showed up along with 10 industrious Hendry County workers led by Charles Chapman, Keitha Daniels and Electa Waddell. By 9 a.m., the work was underway and continued until about 1 p.m. when lunches provided by FPL were devoured by all volunteers.

In addition to the wonderful volunteers, AOI wants to especially thank FPL for donating the mulch, the food and beverages, Hendry County and the Department of Tourism for the exterior paint, brushes and rollers for the picket fence, AOI member Karen Costantino for making replacement pickets for the fence, and members of the Firehouse Community Theatre and the Arts of the Inland for their hard work.

Arts of the Inland, in collaboration with the City of LaBelle and the LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation, are bringing an art gallery to the Barron Park House. The gallery will open with the “Inspirations Art Show” on Sunday, April 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will continue until April 30 with the gallery being open Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 6 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thereafter the gallery, featuring local artists, photographers, jewelry artists, crafters and writers exhibiting and selling their works, will continue to be open Thursdays through Sundays at the above hours of operation.
