Rape cases not settled in U.S.

By Staff | Apr 1, 2015

To the editor:

I am writing to call attention to all women.

FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Director James Comey testified before a U.S, House Budget Committee that there is still a 500,000 backlog of rape kits yet to be tested in the United States. The reality of this means that many rapists and sex offenders are not yet identified or apprehended. This in itself is a public menace to women and children.

Director Comey announced that the FBI is recommending that all criminal booking sites be equipped with the ability to test DNA samples for a national DNA database. This would mean installing software and hardware by the local authorities.

The state of Florida would have to hire more help in its already overloaded forensic laboratories to clear up the backlog! Improvement in this area of neglect is needed. To correct this it will require state and local authorities to make a concerted effort. It will also require extra spending in all these agencies.

The knowledge and know-how is there. Let’s address this threat now. Please contact Gov. Rick Scott today at:

Call your local law enforcement authorities and ask them to install the necessary equipment at their booking sites.
