"Life's a Beach" is the catch phrase being used by the First Congregational Church of Lehigh to promote its 4th annual Spring Buffet Luncheon and Fashion Show to be held on Saturday, May 9 from 1:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to Ada Thompson, a spokeswoman for the show.
"We're going to show what's trendy for our Florida lifestyle and what life at the beach is like today," she said. "We believe our fashion show will be very enjoyable this year," she said.
The fashion show is one of two put on every spring in the Lehigh Area. The other is put on by the General Woman's Club.
To model in fashion show: These first five women, from left to right, Beverly Presnell, Margaret Switzer, Sharyn McKenzie, Shirley Reed, and Deborah Frysinger will model the “Life’s A Beach” Fashion Show on May 9 in Lehigh at the First Congregational Church. Modes also participating who were not present for the photo are Julianne Kellner, Heather Vanderwende, and Cathy Wright. At right is Ada Thompson of the fashion style show committee. There will also be three junior models at the show.
Thompson said the lunch will begin at noon and the "style show" will follow at 1 p.m. with 10 models showing off the most fun and fashionable of styles for summer in Florida. Tickets are $10 and a raffle will also be held for all who attend with more than 50 baskets to be given away. Thompson said the price for the raffle tickets are seven for $5 or 15 for $10.
Space is limited so those who are interested should make plans now to obtain tickets. The number of those in attendance is limited to only 90 people, she said. You can reserve a table and bring your friends, she added.
Thompson is chairman of the style show committee along with Harriet Metzler and Dawn Mathisen.
If visitors have question or want to buy a ticket, they should call 239-369-1615 in the mornings or Thompson at 239-369-0393.
They are calling it their "Style Show" and it will be held in Fellowship Hall of the church, the same area where the church offers food and free hot meals to the hungry. The address is 200 Leeland Heights Blvd E.
Proceeds from the show will go to the Helping Hands Ministry, Thompson said. That includes all the missions of the church including the feeding and food giveaway projects at the church.
Models include the pastor and members of the congregation. They are Beverly Presnell, Margaret Switzer, Julianne Kellner, Sharyn McKenzie, Shirley Reed, Heather Vanderwende, Deborah Frysinger and Cathy Wright.
Junior models include Autumn Larde, Kellie Vanderwende and a third young woman. Escorts will be Dwight Goodwin and Randall Laws.
The First Congregational Church is the oldest church in Lehigh and the show has become one of the more popular programs of the season.
