Lehigh man charged with weapon, drug possession

After a two-month investigation into who the Lee County Sheriff's Office has called a drug dealer and registered felon, James Thomas Bissell, 32, of 1010 Desoto Ave., has been arrested and charged with several counts of illegal sales of narcotics and possession of weapons.

A $1.5 million bond has been set.

Officials said an undercover narcotics detective conducted several narcotics transactions with Bissell, including trafficking in heroin and trafficking in cocaine.

According to a LCSO report, the undercover detective purchased more than 2 ounces of powdered cocaine and approximately 12.9 grams of heroin, with a combined street value of about $5,500.

Bissell was arrested on Dec. 3 following a search warrant at his home,

He was found inside the home, along with numerous firearms, thousands of rounds of various ammunition and numerous amounts of various narcotics.

Officials said the probe showed that Bissell makes approximately $150,000 a year selling narcotics and he has been doing so for about four years.

Detectives seized 34 assorted firearms to include numerous high powered rifles, hand guns and several assault rifles, thousands of rounds of various ammunition, 30.8 grams of cocaine, 0.8 grams of heroin, 53 Hydrocodone pills, 20 morphine pills and 10 Xanax pills and 5.56 pounds of marijuana.

According to the report, they also seized a Chevrolet Silverado and Tahoe, trailer, air compressor, Yamaha four-wheeler, generator, pressure washer, four flatscreen TV sets and $32,049 that was hidden in the house.

Bissell was charged with sale and possession of cocaine, sale and possession of heroin, trafficking in heroin and cocaine, destruction of evidence, possession of a firearm or ammunition out-of-state felon, trafficking in opium, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
