Shelter offers summer specials

Lee County Domestic Animal Services is offering discounts on pet adoptions for the summer.

There are deals on both cats and dogs, including a two-for-one deal on all cats and kittens.

The deals:

- Cats and kittens: $10

- Medium and large dogs: $35

- Puppies and small dogs: $50

All adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, flea treatment, de-worming, heartworm test for dogs six months and older, feline aids and leukemia test for cats, Lee County pet license for pets three months and older, microchip ID, 10-day health guarantee and Pet Behavior Helpline.

Pets available for adoption may be viewed online and adopters can submit an application online.

The website updates hourly.

Volunteers and staff are available to help select the pet that best suits their lifestyle.

Adoption hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers.

Artist of Month named

Ron Nolan is the Artist of the Month for June at the Arts of the Inland Gallery in the cafe at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, at 1500 Lee Blvd.

Stop in and view her artwork Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Salute to Heroes concert planned

Blackbird Anthem and Steve Smith will perform at the Salute to Heroes concert on July 2 at 3 p.m. at the Buckingham Presbyterian Church, at 4241 Buckingham Road,

Blackbird Anthem performs original music led by frontman and HeroSong hero, Adam Martin. Martin is a veteran and former police officer.

Smith, a former firefighter, will perform original music dedicated to his father, a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Free admission, but donations are welcome.

Proceeds will benefit HeroSong, a non-profit that records original music for veterans, active military and first responders.

Community pool offers various classes

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.

A wide range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors.

Eight classes for $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.

There are lifeguards-on-duty. Lap swimmers welcome.

Boot camps focus on fitness, nutrition

Healthy Harvest Community Farms, at 607 Mirror Lakes Drive, hosts the following boot camps:

- Mondays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Williams Park

- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Veterans Park

- Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m and Saturdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Healthy Harvest Community Farms

The classes are free; donations are welcome. At least 10 people must be signed up for a class.

Farmer markets open

Farmers markets will be held:

- Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at JetBlue Park at Fenway South, at 11500 Fenway South Drive, Fort Myers

- Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakes Regional Park, at 7300 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

Plant, tree sale set

A plant sale will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakes Regional Park, at 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

The selection includes succulents, small trees, native plants, herbs, annuals, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer any questions.

There is a $1 per hour parking fee, with a maximum of $5.

Lehigh Children's Choir rehearsing

The Lehigh Children's Choir rehearses from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays at Cayuga Music Studio, at 1100 Homestead Road.

The Lehigh Concert Band rehearses at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the annex at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leeland Blvd.

The group is always looking for musicians who want to perform.
