Kiwanis lists speakers

The Lehigh Acres Kiwanis Club meets each week at 7:30 a.m. in the Community Room at Hope Hospice, at 1201 Wings Way.

Future speakers include:

- Today, Aug. 17: Kirby Bradford, on Buckingham Military Base history

- Aug. 24: Florida Kiwanis Division 10 Lt. Gov. Elect Stewart Ross, on "Introducing the Kiwanis Reading Oasis program"

- Aug. 31: Shannon Starr, marketing director for the Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwest Florida

Breakfast served at 7 a.m.

The public is invited to attend.

Edible Gardening Exchange to meet

Edible Gardening Exchange will meet on Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Fort Myers Community Center, at 2000 N. Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers; informal chat at 5:30 p.m.

The speaker is Gene McAvoy, five-county vegetable agent for UF/IFAS. He will discuss better choices for fall vegetables.

Fee from April to September is $10, plus a one-time $10 Lee Parks and Recreation membership fee.

Bring a cup for free coffee and tea; also consider bringing something to share with the group.

American Business Women Day recognition

The Lehigh Chapter of American Business Women will meet to recognize the American Business Women Day.

The meeting will be held on Sept. 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Connors Steak and Seafood, at 10076 Gulf Center Drive, Fort Myers.

Cost is $25 prior to Sept. 1; after Aug. 31, the cost is $30.

Masquerade Gala set

The Shirley Mae Dove Foundation will hold a Masquerade Gala on Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Fort Myers At Bell Tower Shops, at 13051 Bell Tower Drive, Fort Myers.

There will be a silent auction, music and food, with an open bar.

The Calendar Girls will be on hand, with the proceeds to benefit those with breast cancer.

Cost is $35 or $50 for VIP.

Pool offering classes

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.

A wide range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors.

Eight classes for $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.

There are lifeguards-on-duty. Lap swimmers welcome.

Boot camps focus on fitness, nutrition

Healthy Harvest Community Farms, at 607 Mirror Lakes Drive, hosts the following boot camps:

- Mondays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Williams Park

- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Veterans Park

- Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m and Saturdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Healthy Harvest Community Farms

The classes are free; donations are welcome. At least 10 people must be signed up for a class.

Plant, tree sale planned

A plant sale will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakes Regional Park, at 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

The selection includes succulents, small trees, native plants, herbs, annuals, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer any questions.

There is a $1 per hour parking fee, with a maximum of $5.

Choir rehearsing

The Lehigh Children's Choir rehearses from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays at Cayuga Music Studio, at 1100 Homestead Road.

The Lehigh Concert Band rehearses at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the annex at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leeland Blvd.

The group is always looking for musicians who want to perform.
