By Staff | Oct 7, 2016

A multi-vehicle crash on Thursday night along Pine Island Road left one driver dead.

At 7:45 p.m., Lynda Occean, 33, was traveling westbound on Northeast Pine Island in a Toyota Corolla, according to the Cape police. For unknown reasons, she veered left in the inside lane in the 2000 block and entered into the median, before traveling across the eastbound lanes of the road.

The front of the Toyota then struck the front of an eastbound Ford truck head on. The Toyota was forced directly toward the east, where it came to rest in the eastbound lanes, police reported.

The truck, which had been traveling in the inside lane, was forced into the outside lane, where it collided into an eastbound Dodge SRT4. Both vehicles drove off of the south edge of the road, where the Ford rolled over onto its roof and came to a stop in a ditch. The Dodge came to rest next to it.

Occean was located inside of the Toyota and she had sustained life-threatening injuries.

According to police, Occean was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:06 p.m.

The driver of the Ford, O.J. Lawter Cardet, 40, of Lehigh Acres, sustained minor injuries, along with two passengers, Carrie A. Faith, 44, and Joseph Bronson, 31, both also of Lehigh. Police reported that the driver of the Dodge, Cesar Yamamoto, 18, of North Fort Myers, had also suffered minor injuries.

All four were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

As of today, their hospital conditions were not available.

It is unknown is alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to the police.
