Artists of the Month named

Aviation Day set

The Lee County Port Authority will host Aviation Day 2016 on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the ramp on the north side of Page Field, at 5200 Captain Channing Page Drive, Fort Myers.

There will be three featured aircrafts: a North American B-25J Mitchell; Douglas C-47 Skytrain; and P-51D Mustang.

Other attractions will include antique, experimental and general aviation aircraft, airplane and helicopter rides for a fee, local police and fire demonstrations, children's activities, vendors and more.

Free admission.

Visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida.

Free parking is available off of North Airport Road and U.S. 41, with complimentary shuttle bus transportation to the event.

Submissions sought for Perceptions Art Show

The Arts of the Inland Perceptions Art Show 2016 will be held in November at the Barron Park House Gallery, at 471 N. Lee St., LaBelle.

The juried art show is open to all Arts of the Inland members, as well as non-AOI members.

Artists may submit a maximum of two pieces of art work.

Paintings, photographs and drawings are acceptable, as well as 3D art and sculpture.

Awards will be determined by the number of entries.

Calling all musicians

The Lehigh Concert Band starts rehearsals for the season on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leeland Heights Blvd.

It is accepting new musicians who play at a senior high school, college level or above.

Programs include swing, movie, marches, light classics, Dixie and modern pieces.

The band also offers a scholarship program to encourage young players to join.

Band launches new season

The Lee County Community Band will kick off its season with a concert on Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. in the Cape Coral High School auditorium, at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd.

The performance will pay tribute to veterans of the U.S. Armed Services and showcase the works of American composers.

It is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.

Future concert dates include Dec. 11, Jan. 22, Feb. 12, March 5 and April 2.

The band is comprised of residents from Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. It welcomes new members every year.

Masquerade Gala nears

The Shirley Mae Dove Foundation will hold a Masquerade Gala on Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Fort Myers At Bell Tower Shops, at 13051 Bell Tower Drive, Fort Myers.

There will be a silent auction, music and food, with an open bar.

The Calendar Girls will be on hand, with the proceeds to benefit those suffering from breast cancer.

Cost is $35 or $50 for VIP.

Pool offers mix of classes

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.

A range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors.

Eight classes for $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.

There are lifeguards-on-duty. Lap swimmers welcome.

Farmers markets will be held:

- Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Centennial Park, at 201 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers

- Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Florida SouthWestern, at 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers

- Saturdays from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cornog Plaza, at 2400-2438 First St., Fort Myers

- Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakes Regional Park, at 7300 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers

Plant, tree sale scheduled

A plant sale will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakes Regional Park, at 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

The selection includes succulents, small trees, native plants, herbs, annuals, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer any questions.

There is a $1 per hour parking fee.

Children's choir rehearsing

The Lehigh Children's Choir rehearses from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays at Cayuga Music Studio, at 1100 Homestead Road.
