New LRMC gift shop reopens

By Staff | Nov 2, 2016

MEL TOADVINE Lehigh Regional Medical Center has reopened its gift shop after recent renovations, including more shelves for added room.

The Lehigh Regional Medical Center’s Auxiliary is celebrating the renovated gift shop’s official reopening this week.

Auxiliary president Liz Eilf, who helps to operate the shop, said the store has been completely made over.

“The hospital changed everything with a new floor, new ceiling tiles, fresh paint, double the shelving,” she said. “We’re really proud of the new gift shop, and a lot of the people who work at the hospital stop and tell me how nice it looks.”

Located to the left of the hospital’s front entrance, the store will soon have an official name. It will be selected from three suggestions submitted from the auxiliary members during a recent contest.

The member who suggested the winning name will get free movie tickets.

Eilf said the gift shop’s location is ideal for visitors entering the hospital.

“They can stop in here and buy fresh flowers to take to a patient they may be visiting, or they can purchase one of several items,” she said.

“We have jewelry, books, all kinds of get well items, singing toy bears and more,” Eilf said. “We have such a variety of items for sale now because with the renovation came more room to display things.”

The original shop opened in 1983 after LRMC was constructed, according to Eilf.

“This is the first renovation of our gift shop after all these years, and it is a very nice place to shop,” she said. “We urge the public to come to LRMC and purchase items from our shop.”

“Our prices are very fair,” Eilf added. “The money that the shop makes goes to scholarships for young people interested in pursuing education in the medical field.”

On Nov. 5, the auxiliary will host its first fashion show at 3 p.m. in the cafe at the hospital.

It will feature fashions from Draper’s and Damon’s, located in the Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers. Several models will show off the styles for the new season.

The event is open to the public. Tickets cost $10 each and that includes food and drinks.

“We’ll have door prizes for those who come, too,” she said.

Tickets can be bought at the front desk of the hospital, or by calling Eilf at 239-219-7883.

“We invite everyone to also visit our new gift shop while here,” Eilf said. “We think they will like what they see.”

Currently, there are about 35 volunteers who donate their time to LRMC through the auxiliary.

“We are always looking for new volunteers. Anyone over 18 can come and volunteer and that means both men and women,” Eilf said. “We serve different department at the hospital, giving help to personnel here.”

Open during the week, the gift shop is staffed by the volunteers.
