Fire control, rescue district swears in new employees
As tradition would have it at the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, 12 new hirees recently stood in line while their family members pinned their badges onto their uniformed shirts.
On Oct. 31 at Fire Station 104, interim Fire Chief Rob Dilallo called the name of each new firefighter and introduced them to the audience.
He said the district is lucky to have such a talented group of new employees.
Dilallo said the employees were hired over the last several weeks and all are on the payroll and ready to fight fires.
After wives and children, mothers and fathers came forward to pin badges on their loved one’s uniform, refreshments were served to all that attended the meeting.
For fire board Commissioners David Adams and Larry Decker, it was their last official meeting as neither sought re-election to their seat in the Nov. 8 general election.
During the meeting, awards were also handed out to two district employees who are retiring.
Diallo handed out large plaques to Larry Tibbs, finance manager, and Engineer Terry Sexton, who had served for nearly 30 years.
Tibbs had been on the administrative staff for over three years.
The new firefighters included:
– Devin Ameroso,
– Ryan Cerone
– Michael Hoeft
– Byrne Gribbin
– Mario Santana
– Javier Bermudez
– Maury Morejon
– Denford Miller
– Ashley Zalewski
– Julio Lalondriz
– John Felipe
– Arthur Pegler
Adams and Becker have each served the board for eight years.
Both said they enjoyed working with the fire district and the other fire board members.
Becker thanked Diallo and wished him well in becoming the department’s nest full-time chief.
The fire district’s board of commissioners will meet again on Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. at Fire Station 104, at 3102 S.W. 16th St.
