Art show planned

Hosted by the Arts of the Inland, the Perceptions Art Show 2016 will be held today through Nov. 27 at the Barron Park House Gallery, at 471 N. Lee St., LaBelle.

The juried show features AOI members and non-members.

Creative ARTs Market returns

The River District Alliance will host the Creative ARTs Market on Nov. 11-12 and Dec. 9-10 along Hendry Street, from Bay Street to Edwards Drive, in Fort Myers.

The Friday times will be from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Saturday times will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be a variety of vendors showcasing handicrafts, original and upcycled artwork, photography, gift items and more.

Admission is free.

Class to focus on ideas for home gardeners

A gardening class will be held on Nov. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hendry County Extension Office, at 1085 Pratt Blvd., Labelle.

The presenter will be Karen Harty, executive director of Grow A Gardener and a Lee County master gardener and composter.

She will discuss the lesser utilized, overlooked and new crop ideas for the home gardener for the fall, winter and spring locally.

Learn tricks for growing them, including their minimal maintenance requirements.

The $17 fee includes handouts and $20-plus in vegetable seeds.

Bike Night planned

The River District Alliance will host the Downtown Fort Myers Bike Night on Nov. 12 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Fort Myers.

Thousands of bikes will line the streets of historic downtown and various vendors will be on site.

Three stages will set up, featuring the bands Ever Rock, That 80's Show and Rocking Horse.

Admission is free.

Band launches new season

The Lee County Community Band will kick off its season with a concert on Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. in the Cape Coral High School auditorium, at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd.

The performance will pay tribute to veterans of the U.S. Armed Services and showcase the works of American composers.

It is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.

Future concert dates include Dec. 11, Jan. 22, Feb. 12, March 5 and April 2.

The band is comprised of residents from Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties. It welcomes new members every year.

Masquerade Gala nears

The Shirley Mae Dove Foundation will hold a Masquerade Gala on Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Fort Myers At Bell Tower Shops, at 13051 Bell Tower Drive, Fort Myers.

There will be a silent auction, music and food, with an open bar.

The Calendar Girls will be on hand, with the proceeds to benefit those with breast cancer.

Cost is $35 or $50 for VIP.

Kiwanis announces upcoming speakers

The Lehigh Acres Kiwanis Club meets each week at 7:30 a.m. in the Community Room at Hope Hospice, at 1201 Wings Way.

- Nov. 30: Jennie Vogelbach, public relations director of Special Olympics Coller County

Edible Gardening Exchange to meet

Edible Gardening Exchange will meet on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Fort Myers Community Center, at 2000 N. Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers; informal chat at 5:30 p.m.

The speakers are Bob and Frenny James. They will discuss moringa, including its health benefits, how to grow it, and products and recipes made with it.

Fee from October to May is $10, plus a one-time $10 Lee Parks and Recreation membership fee.

Bring a cup for free coffee and tea; also consider bringing something to share with the group.

Craft sale scheduled

The General Woman's Club of Lehigh Acres will meet on Nov. 18 at noon in Sweatlock Hall at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 E. Leeland Heights Blvd.

The club's annual holiday craft sale will follow at 1 p.m.

Parkinson's functional screening session set

Lee Health will hold a community resource and screening session for people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease on Nov. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Outpatient Rehabilitation at City Center, at 3114 Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers.

Each participant can expect to visit with a physical therapist to address mobility concerns, an occupational therapist to address self-care activities and home management and a speech language pathologist to discuss communication and swallowing concerns.

Resources related to education, support group, exercise group and identification of individualized therapy needs will be provided.

A report of recommendations will be sent to the participant's health care professional of choice.

Space is limited; reservations are required.

Pool offers classes

The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.

A range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors.

Eight classes for $50.

Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.

There are lifeguards-on-duty. Lap swimmers welcome.

Boot camps focus on fitness, nutrition

Healthy Harvest Community Farms, at 607 Mirror Lakes Drive, hosts the following boot camps:

- Mondays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Williams Park

- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Veterans Park

- Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m and Saturdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Healthy Harvest Community Farms

The classes are free; donations are welcome. At least 10 people must be signed up for a class.

Plant and tree sale scheduled

A plant sale will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Lakes Regional Park, at 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers.

The selection includes succulents, small trees, native plants, herbs, annuals, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Master Gardeners will be available to answer any questions.

There is a $1 per hour parking fee, with a maximum of $5.

The Lehigh Concert Band rehearses Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the annex at Faith Lutheran Church, at 705 Leeland Blvd.

It is always accepting new musicians who play at a senior high school, college level or above.

The band also offers a scholarship program to encourage young players to join.
