In light of National Park and Recreation Month, Lee County Parks and Recreation is giving back to the community by offering free access to many of its recreational sites for the public to enjoy.

Betsy Clayton, the communications director for Lee County, said the county has participated in the nationally-recognized month for over 10 years. It gives people a glimpse of what the sites have to offer.

"We do this to help promote the parks and facilities to people who maybe wouldn't go and use them," she said. "It's a simple way to introduce potentially new visitors to our park facilities."

On July 29-30, free admission and parking will be available at sites like the Lehigh Community Pool, at 1400 W. 5th St. It is open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5:45 p.m.

The Lee County Commission signed a resolution on June 20 designating July as National Parks and Recreation Month. Doing so, it recognized Lee County Parks and Recreation as an agency that touches the lives of individuals, families, groups and the community and positively impacts the county's social, economic and environmental quality. According to officials, this year's theme is "Get Your Play On."
