The 2017-18 school year is here and Principal Neketa Watson at Lehigh Acres Middle School welcomed almost 1,400 students to the school.

The mission this year is "Excellence in All Areas: Improving and Increasing School Wide."

Last year the administration, teachers and staff suited up under the theme "Game Time," scored several touchdowns and quickly realized it truly was "Game Time" at LAMS.

Under Watson's leadership the school received national recognition by becoming an AVID National Demonstration School, received districtwide recognition for its efforts and increased its school grade by 26 points.

"We achieved a lot and made incredible progress, but now we are going after our 'A,'" Watson, who begins her fourth year at the school, said.

This should be a very exciting year. After years of being on a journey to become an National AVID Demo School, the school has gained that recognition and now has the opportunity to open its campus to schools from all over the nation.
