Toss politicians out with trash

October 4, 2017
Lehigh Acres Citizen

To the editor:

It is an undeniable fact that in Lee County, Lehigh Acres was devastated by hurricane Irma. The eye of this storm passed through Lehigh leaving tens of thousands without power, water or food.

Each day my grandchildren and I ventured out in search of food or any available staples. It took six days before we finally spotted an LCEC truck. I can only assume the workers had been busy working on some defective street light in one of our so-called upper-class communities.

Continue on to today - trash and debris litters the landscape, with no collections in sight. Yet, on TV they show additional crews being used to make the upper class areas beautiful again.

Above all, the people of Lehigh have no one else to blame for this problem other than their selves. We have been viewed as second-class citizens unworthy of any normal response, even to a disaster. We have consistently re-elected our so-called representatives knowing that their only concern for their constituents' well-being ends three seconds after they receive your vote.

If there was ever a time for heads to roll, it is now. Turn the tragedy of Irma into something positive - toss the politicians out along with the trash.
