Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help generating any information about a fatal hit and run crash over the weekend in Lehigh Acres.

About noon Oct. 22, a passerby in the area of 40th Street Southwest and Rena Avenue South found a woman lying facedown on the side of the road. Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff's Office determined that the woman was struck by an unknown driver in the overnight or early morning hours.

The driver did not stop to render assistance, but rather continued on, according to officials.

The vehicle involved is likely to have sustained front end damage.

The victim has been identified as Akeera Shanks, 29, of Fort Myers.

Anyone who was in the area, who may have spotted any suspicious drivers or come across a vehicle with damage consistent with a hit and run crash, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
