An annual fundraiser this weekend in Cape Coral will benefit a regional dog rescue group.

Jill's Joint will host its 8th annual Dog Wash on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 889 N.E. 27th Lane, Unit 1. Owner Jill Heinzeroth explained that the proceeds benefit Boxer Rescue Angels of Florida.

"The animals kind of need it and it's a good cause," she said.

"And they take wonderful care of the animals," Heinzeroth added of the rescue.

Last year, about 70 dogs received a scrub down.

"It was close to $1,200," she said of what was raised for the organization.

Heinzeroth noted that the weather did factor in.

"It was pretty cold last year," she said.

This year, Heinzeroth hopes to raise as much as possible.

"We have lots of volunteers on hand," she said.

For a $10 donation, any breed of dog will receive a bath, nail clipping and ear cleaning.

"We have vet techs on hand to do the nail trimming and ear cleaning," Heinzeroth said.

Owners are welcome to bring any required special or medicated shampoos.

No reservations are required to take advantage of the service.

"They don't have to make a reservation," she said.

"We'll have volunteers out here to walk them (the dogs) around if they (the owners) want to come inside and eat," Heinzeroth added.

The event will also feature a 50/50 raffle and items up for grabs.

"We have some great raffle items," she said. "Some baskets, some gift certificates, some dog-themed baskets."

Heinzeroth encouraged dog owners - and those without dogs - to stop by.

"It's a great rescue and they do good work for the animals," she said.

"It's to give back to the dogs," Heinzeroth added.
