District announces new hire

The School District of Lee County recently announced the hire of Dr. Wanda Creel as the new chief academic officer.

Creel comes from Georgia, where she has experience in educational leadership at the school, district and state levels. She earned her doctorate degree in educational leadership from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and her master's degree in educational administration and supervision from State University of West Georgia.

In her role, Creel will lead and direct the academic program of the district, overseeing student learning, teaching, research and related areas connected to student success.

FSW to hold open house

The Florida SouthWestern State College will hold its fall open house today, Nov. 15, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on the Thomas Edison (Lee) Campus, at 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.

Current students, faculty and staff will be available to answer questions and visitors will have an opportunity to take a campus tour.

Interested attendees are encouraged to register online in advance, but walk-ins are welcome.

Hoops for Hope planned

The Buckingham Exceptional School and If I Can Dream Foundation will host the Inaugural Hoops for Hope on Dec. 1 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the school, at 3291 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers.

To sponsor a student for a game, the cost is $75.

Proceeds will provide a happy holiday for students and support the family of Zachary Polsenburg.
