East Lee County High student receives scholarship

Jacqueline Rodriguez, an 11th grade student at East Lee County High School, recently received a Florida Prepaid Scholarship through the Uncommon Friends Foundation.

The foundation awards scholarships to deserving students, veterans and adults who need financial assistance, excel in school, possess high character qualities and are pursuing degrees in education, law, technology and other studies.

Jacqueline is an Advanced Via Individual Determination or AVID student and she is currently pursuing studies in the medical academy.

All of the foundation's scholarship winners were honored at the foundation's annual Uncommon Evening held on Nov. 2 in Fort Myers.

School district recognized with Best Accounting/Finance Initiative Award

The School District of Lee County was selected as a Run Smarter Award winner for Best Accounting/Finance Initiative.

The award exemplifies the district's commitment to Goal 4 of Vision 2020, being a model continuous improvement organization.

The Financial Services Department has been recognized specifically for its automation of financial processes and elimination of paper by using Laserfische software.

The accomplishment was achieved using an embedded services concept through close partnership with the finance, procurement, innovation services and application services departments.

Inaugural Hoops for Hope planned for December

The Buckingham Exceptional School and If I Can Dream Foundation will host the Inaugural Hoops for Hope on Dec. 1 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the school, at 3291 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers.

To sponsor a student for a game, the cost is $75.

Proceeds will provide a happy holiday for students and support the family of Zachary Polsenburg.
