CCPD: Two sent to hospital following serious crash on Veterans

A Thanksgiving Day crash in Cape Coral sent two people to the hospital with injuries.

Police reported that Kenneth A. Graves, 36, of Cape Coral, was driving a Ford Mustang westbound on Veterans Memorial Parkway on Thursday, approaching Country Club Boulevard. At 3:40 p.m., the car lost traction and began rotating across the westbound travel lanes and left turn lanes in the 900 block.

The Mustang crossed over the raised median, went airborne and struck a Toyota Prius traveling eastbound in the inside lane of Veterans. The Mustang continued rotating across the eastbound lanes of Veterans, where it struck a Chevrolet Equinox traveling eastbound in the outside lane of Veterans.

The Mustang and the Equinox came to final rest on the outside shoulder of Veterans.

The Prius came to final rest in the inside lane of Veterans.

Graves sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital by ambulance, according to police. As of today, he remains hospitalized in fair condition.

The driver of the Prius, Kennya L. Gonzalez Ojeda, 32, of the Cape, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital by ambulance. She is currently listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Equinox, Crystal M. Binkley, 34, of the Cape, was not injured in the crash. Her passenger, Susan K. Seachrest, 55, of the Cape, also did not report any injuries to responders.

Police reported that the accident is not alcohol or drug related.

Veterans Memorial Parkway was shut down for hours as a result of the crash.
