The Florida Department of Children and Families recently received approval to administer telephone interviews for individuals with disabilities and the elderly who preregistered online by Nov. 9 for the federal Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or D-SNAP.

Individuals who are head of household age 60 or older or with a disability and preregistered online but were physically unable to visit a D-SNAP Food for Florida site personally or send an authorized representative may participate in an interview for benefits over the phone on Dec. 2-3. If individuals are determined eligible, Electronic Benefits Transfer or EBT cards will be sent to their mailing address.

Interviews will take place from 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 855-278-7136. Individuals who provided cell phone numbers with their preregistration may also receive direct communication from DCF.

Requirements to participate in a D-SNAP phone interview:

- Must have preregistered online by Nov. 9

- Must be head of household 60 years of age or older or disabled

- Must have valid identification, which will be verified during the interview

Individuals who meet the above criteria with last names beginning with A-L should call the toll-free number on Dec. 2. Individuals with last names beginning with M-Z should call the number on Dec. 3. Callers should have their Florida driver license or identification and social security number ready.

Those who do not meet the criteria as specified in Florida's federally-approved D-SNAP waiver for phone interviews may choose to apply for regular SNAP food assistance and other public benefits at www.myflorida.com/accessflorida.
