It is the Mardi Gras season and while everybody is enjoying in different places across the country, the Lehigh Acres Senior Center wants to capture the moment.

They will host a Mardi Gras evening dance from 7-9 p.m. on March 8 at the senior center featuring entertainment.

The night dance is an monthly event with different themes for the residents and community.

"Every month we do a night dance," Melissa Barry said. "It's usually the second Thursday of every month"

They decided to start this about one year ago.

"It's growing every single time we have it," Barry said. "I goes down a little in the summer."

The charge to get in is $5 a person.

The entertainment and food will be included with the price.

"They bring in some pizza," Barry said. "They have team members do the DJing and they have a dance and we open it up to the public.

The decorations will be themed as well.

"They decorate for the dance," Barry said. "We'll have Mardi Gras decorations. They'll play a little bit of Mardi Gras music.

Barry stresses the importance of the dance.

"I think it is importance for the night dane because I believe it is important to get people a chance to get out and have some fun. They get up and they move. It's proven that people who dance actually have a less chance of developing dementia than people who don't."
