The General Women's Club Fashion show needs some generous people to come out and help support the cause they are trying to fund.

They want the community to come out to Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club on Six Mile Cypress on March 24. The show will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will be $30 a ticket.

"We're are hoping to get more donations and contributions from other businesses and people," event organizer Karen McKenzie said.

At the moment, they have Raymond James Financial, who is going to sponsor $500 donations and Dr. Peter Curcione, who is sponsoring a $500 donation.

The support goes to a good cause which will help many residents.

"We plan on giving away six $1,000 scholarships to single parents in Lehigh," McKenzie said.

Every year they give scholarships away, but they wanted to switch it up.

"This year we raised the standard and decided we wanted to give away six $1,000 scholarships," McKenzie said.

In the past, they usually gave out $500 scholarships to seven parents.

To receive donations, the club simply asks in person or with a donation letter.

"We usually go to different restaurants or vendors and talk to them," McKenzie said. "Today I was at the Everblades and they're considering it. I was at the casino yesterday and they're considering giving us a donation."

"We feel really strongly on educating young people in the community and we thought this would be a great way for the parents to set an example for their children," McKenzie said.

There will be 10 models on the platform.

"The fashion show will be hosted by Trader Ricks," McKenzie said. "Trader Ricks is a store that has really RC type fashionable wardrobes for women."

They will even have a dinner for attendees.

"We will have a nice luncheon," McKenzie said. "It will be a salad with chicken and it has strawberries, blueberries, lettuce and dressing. They even have the caramelized pecans on the salad. There will be bread and rolls served with it and beverage and of course dessert."

The General Women's Club has been around for about 50 years and do many events and fundraisers throughout the year.

"We've done quarter-auctions, fashion shows,"McKenzie said. "We give canned goods to Lehigh Community Services. All the money raised goes to different benefits in Lehigh.'

The Club has set future goals to keep active in the Lehigh Community.

"The goal is to keep the club running and even to get more women involved that might be interested. It's open to all women in Lehigh or surrounding areas." McKenzie said.
