Local churches and organizations are hosting a Good Friday Cross Walk event on Friday, March 30. Residents and businesses interested in joining the walk will meet up inside the Publix shopping center at 5:30 pm.

Among some of the organizers involved are Pastor Michael Porzio from New Image Ministries Church on Homestead Road and Christ United Methodist Church of Lehigh Acres.

According to local church member and event contact, Sandra Roman, this is not strictly a church event, but more of a community event.

"We welcome everyone to come out and walk. Organizations and businesses who would like to be involved can get a cross built with a plaque that has their company's name, which they can carry that day," said Roman.

Individuals who don't or are unable to walk the entire distance are welcome to meet the groups at their final destination, Veterans Park.

"We will end the walk inside Veterans Park, over the by the soccer fields and pavilions. People can also join us anywhere along our route down Homestead Road," Roman said.

After the walk, everyone is invited to enjoy music, food and fellowship near the pavilions at Veteran's Park.

"Those involved in the Cross Walk will be recognized for the participation during the event's finale at the park," said Roman.

This is not the first year that the churches have come together to host a Cross Walk on Good Friday.

"A few years ago we organized a walk that was a church event. This year we decided to make it a community event, so that everyone can be involved. It's a great way for people to show their community support and celebrate the day together," said Roman.

Organizations who would like to have a cross made must contact event organizers by March 23. They can either email or call to supply the information needed to make the cross.

"We see the importance of community outreach and getting everyone together," said Roman.

For more information or to sign up to participate and have a cross made prior to the event, please contact Sandra Roman either by phone at 239-850-2018 or email:
