Keep Proposal 22 off the ballot

March 21, 2018
Lehigh Acres Citizen

To the editor:

The Constitution Revision Commission held a Public Hearing in Cape Coral recently so that Southwest Florida citizens could speak about the proposals vying for a spot on this November's Ballot.

Among those voices, anti-choice proponents urged the committee to revive Proposal 22, after the CROC Judicial Committee voted no on the measure several weeks ago. Proposal 22 is a bizarre effort to narrow and undermine Floridians' constitutionally protected rights to privacy. The committee rightly rejected the proposal, and in fact voted it down by a two-to-one margin.

An October 2017 poll showed that 74 percent of Floridians would not support an effort to remove our current privacy protections.

As a constituent who enjoys being largely free of government intrusion into my private life, I urge the CROC to reject the small minority of voices who seek to strip the rest of us of our privacy rights.
