Florida Governmental Utility Authority issues a Precautionary Boil Water Notification for Lehigh Acres System customers

August 21, 2018
Lehigh Acres Citizen

The Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) has issued a Precautionary Boil Water Notice Advisory as of Monday, August 20, at 5 p.m., to Lehigh Acres Utility System customers due to a 12-inch water main break just south of the entrance to Majestic Golf Club on Homestead Road. Due to lightening sticking a utility pole and causing damage to the water main, approximately 300 customers have been affected. This includes homes and businesses along Homestead Road, south of Milwaukee and all homes on Parkdale Road as well as homes along Southdale Road and homes within the Woodbridge Preserve are also affected. Customers may have experienced low pressure or no water.

Service crews are onsite and repairs a currently underway. Services are anticipated to be restored by approximately 11 p.m. Once repairs are completed, samples of the water will be taken to a Florida Department of Health-certified laboratory for testing. A notice to rescind the BWN will be issued once samples confirm the water is safe to drink. The rescind of the notice is anticipated by Thursday, August 23.

The FGUA provides a Boil Water Advisory under Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) requirements in the event that water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch in the service area. In the meantime, the FGUA advises that all water used for drinking or cooking be boiled. A rolling boil for a period of one minute is sufficient to ensure the water is free of possible bacteria or viruses. Alternatively, bottled water may be used.

For additional information or updates, FGUA customer may contact the FGUA Lehigh Acres Utility Systems Customer Service Office at (239) 368-1615 or visit the FGUA website at www.fgua.com.
