The community is invited to an annual tradition at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, complete with a visit by Santa Claus.

Lehigh Regional Medical Center Business Development, Marketing Manager Jennifer Marshall said the annual event will include a visit by Santa Claus, refreshments and some Christmas carols performed by students at local schools.

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting with Santa will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the hospital, 1500 Lee Blvd.

Santa will arrive by fire truck at 5 p.m. and then make his way indoors to a room next to the cafeteria to listen to what the children want this year for Christmas. Marshall said they will have a professional photographer taking photographs of the children on Santa's lap.

"You leave with your picture," she explained.

In the cafeteria, individuals will have the opportunity to enjoy such fresh refreshments as cookies, eggnog, hot chocolate and apple juice for the kids.

Outside entertainment will kick off with the tiny tots from Lehigh Childcare Center, followed by Mirror Lakes Elementary School, Lehigh Acres Middle School and East Lee County High School.

"These 2 and 3 year olds singing Jingle Bells . . . the parents dress them up in Christmas gowns and bows in their hair . . . they are worth being there at 5 (p.m.)," she said. "All the other acts are really good. The elementary schoolers take it so seriously."

When the sun goes down a tree lighting will take place.

"Pretty much any tree around the stage area we wrap with lights. The whole front of the hospital is Christmas lights," Marshall said.

Those who attend the event are asked to bring a nonperishable food item.

"They will be there with a table by the front door collecting nonperishable food items for the Salvation Army," she said.
