Tucked away on the outskirts of east Lehigh Acres is 5 Star Stables & Tack Stop, the destination for many local and visiting horse lovers.

Owner/operator Robin Gray opened 5 Star Stables in January 2009, which quickly grew to become one of the premier horse farm boarding stables in the Fort Myers area. Gray has spent most of her life riding and showing horses.

"Horses have been a part of my life since I was 3 years old. I started showing horses in Oklahoma when I was 12 years old. My passion has always been horses. I am a dental hygienist, but when I came across the opportunity to have my own barn, I took it. I always wanted to open a stable that would be your one-stop shop for all your equestrian dreams," explained Gray.

According to Gray, 5 Star Stables has activities, rides and lessons that cater to all ages.

"We offer horseback trail rides, Western and English lessons, birthday or company parties, proposals and boarding. We started a tack store, but had to limit how much we offer since we are off the beaten-path, per say, and do not have the traffic through here," said Gray.

The stable offers a variety of trail rides including; the Outback - a 30-minute ride for kids 8 and under; Outback Journey - a 60-minute ride for ages 9 and over; Hogsback Trail a 90-minute ride; Lakeside Trail - a 120-minute ride and for those with more endurance the 5 Star Trail is a 180-minute scenic guided tour through tall pines, palmettos, and lush oak hammock.

5 Star Stables also offers Western and English riding lessons for all ages. Gray's team of trainers and staff first assess each individual's capabilities and then match them with the right horse and lesson.

"We start every lesson on the ground with grooming, saddling, then off to the arena. It depends on someone's prior experience level on how quickly they advance. Every rider is different and learns differently. We focus on a solid foundation and build relationships between horse and rider. We believe balance and confidence are the basis to start your horse adventure," said Gray.

According to Gray, exposure to horses and the outdoors benefits both adults and kids in many ways.

"Horses can be very therapeutic. A trail ride can take you away from reality and give you tranquility. Horses can teach kids responsibility, patience, coordination, trust and confidence," said Gray. "Kids learn about responsibility when they work with a horse. They learn how to care for a horse with nutrition, horsemanship, stall care and hoof care. They also learn safety. We are very safety conscious and teach them how to be safe around horses."

Besides riding for pleasure, many of the adults and kids that Gray and her trainers teach compete in local and state competitions for English and Western style riding events including the Southwest Florida and Lee County Fair.

5 Star Stables & Tack Stop is located at 1835 The Thompson's Way, Lehigh Acres, FL. For information on guided trail rides, lessons, birthday parties, camps or boarding, call 239-337-STAR (7827) or visit their website www.stableandtack.com
