A new nonprofit production company, Lehigh Publick Theatre, is seeking actors for its upcoming production of "The Comedy of Errors."

Director Donato Colucci said he wanted to bring Lehigh Publick Theatre to the area because there is no dramatic activity in Lehigh.

"I wanted to offer the best there is, which means Shakespeare and the classics," he said.

The extended audition of Shakespeare's farce of mistaken identify featuring two sets of twins, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 215 Richmond Ave. N.

The style of "The Comedy of Errors" is inspired by animated cartoons and will use primary colors and played at high speed. All ages are welcome to audition for the production.

"There is a wide variety of ages, so anyone that can act has a good shot at the role," John Chatterton said, adding that he hopes to be in the production playing the same role he did when he was 15 years younger. "He has casted a few people, but it is a big cast."

Those interested in auditioning are asked to send their resume and headshot to

donatocolucci43@gmail.com. Although previous acting experience is preferred, it is not a requirement. The production is all volunteer.

In addition to numerous roles, Lehigh Publick Theatre is also in need of a stage manager, costumer, light and sound techs, carpenter and social-media coordinator.

The production will take place in November and December at the outdoor stage of Veterans Park, 55 Homestead Road.

"This is the only theater around with any interest in classical plays, especially Shakespeare. There is a lot of room for improvisation and fun, but also a lot of complexity and technique," Chatterton said. "He is a very creative director in a lot of his productions. I've been in a few of them."

Colucci has founded theaters, designed and executed outdoor facilities at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill in 1966 and in Boston, the Publick Theatre in 1971. The theater in Boston operated for more than 40 years before it succumbed to arson. Colucci also directed and produced from 1976 to 1980 in New York City.

He has directed more than 70 plays, as well as serving as an actor, playwright and college instructor.

Since 1997, Colucci has maintained 21shake.com, a 21st Century Shakespeare Studies website where he has posted 23 articles. The scholar has also created a website, TheShakespeareRecords.com where information about Shakespeare, his family and theatrical associations is posted.
