State Rep. Spencer Roach has filed an appropriations bill on behalf of the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District for the funding to build new station 106.

"We are hopeful that the bill will be approved," said Chief Robert Dilallo at the Oct. 29 board meeting.

Dilallo and members of the fire district met with local delegates to get support for the bill earlier in the month. If approved, the money will be used to begin the construction process of a new station to be located on Sunshine Boulevard.

Dilallo also gave updates on the two fire stations currently under construction.

"Both stations are moving along very well. We continue to keep a close eye on the construction. We are predicting to have a temporary(certificated of occupancy) on Joel Boulevard's station 101 and Gunnery Road, station 103 by the end of January. We will host an open house for both stations once they are completed," Dilallo said.

The fire district is continuing to prepare for dry season, with the addition of two new engines up and going by January.

"We had to replace two of our older engines. The new engines will be delivered in December," Dilallo said. "Currently we have five brush trucks at each of our stations, plus one reserved. We also have a crash truck obtained from forestry and a HumVEE, spot-fire recon truck. January is usually the high-point of dry season," Dilallo said.

Under new business, fire district commissioners approved two new job descriptions; a mechanic in the Logistics Division and part-time plans reviewer.

"The board approved a couple new job descriptions for positions that we will be filling. Currently we have a need for both a mechanic position and a part-time plans review person. We have a lot of permitting going on with the construction of the stations. The county doesn't aid in the permitting process anymore, so we need to hire someone to come in and provide that service," Dilallo said.

The board tabled agenda item on personal and family relationships in the workplace until next month.

The board also reviewed a proposal to schedule workshops in November to review and discuss proposed updates to the Non-Bargaining Handbook for administrative staff.

The Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District and Veteran's Park Recreation Centers' Fall Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23.

The next regular meeting of the LAFCR board of commissioners will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26. at 5 p.m. at the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, 601 East County Lane, Lehigh Acres.

The meetings are open to the public.
