Southwest Florida SHIELD Foundation and Mugs n' Jugs Family Grille partnered to host a trunk-or-treat, car show fundraiser on Saturday, Oct.26.

The event is in its second year and drew a large crowd who came to show community support. Proceeds from the event go towards a new program called Shield4Kids.

According to Southwest Florida SHIELD Foundation Founder James Branham, the organization recently partnered up with Benches For Our Babes to begin the new program.

"Our goal is to find ways to keep our kids safe. Proceeds from the event will help raise money for the bench program and help make road flares and LED beacons available to parents at each bus stop," Branham said. "We had a great turnout this evening and have enough money to build and install 15 new benches. We could not have created this event without the help of our co-hosts Mugs N' Jugs, 239 Toys, J & G Entertainment and Southwest All Terrain Club."

The evening featured a variety of activities including a car show, costume contest for the kids, hay ride, bounce house and awards for the best decorated vehicle.

Unique Imagez Barber took home first prize for best decked-out Halloween vehicle in the car show.

Local businesses and organizations also came out to show their support and connect with the community.

According to Tyler Woodby, vice president of the Lehigh Community Council, the night was a big hit with the kids. Each child got a chance to spin the wheel for a host at winning candy, toys or a grab bag of goodies.

"The spinning wheel booth did great, it was a big hit with the kids," Woodby said.

A few local businesses went above-and beyond, providing a haunted, car themed, trunk-or-treat experience for the kids.

For parents attending this event was the perfect opportunity to get the family out for a safe tick-or-treat outing and enjoy the eclectic array of decorated vehicles.

"This is our first time but it's been lots of fun. Very kid-friendly and some great decorated cars to look at. We will definitely be back next year," mother Valerie Thomas.

Mugs n' Jugs also offered an assortment of food specials and drink specials throughout the evening.

SHEILD in collaboration with Mugs-n-Jugs and Southwest All Terrain Club plan to host a Toy Extravaganza on Saturday, Dec. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to the public and will be held at Mugs N' Jugs, 5512 8th Street W., Lehigh Acres.

Kids can meet Santa and his elves, play holiday games and there will be an anything with wheels car show. Entries pay $20 fee that goes directly to the Sheild4Kids Bench Program. For more information r to register as a vendor email: or call 239-349-5057.
