Burrowing Owl Festival set for Feb. 29

The 18th annual Burrowing Owl Festival Wildlife & Environmental Exposition is will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 29 at Rotary Park in Cape Coral, 5505 Rose Garden Road.

A $5 admission donation is suggested, with children under 12 free. Parking also is free.

Festival highlights will include:

* Live wildlife animals -- 30+ Wildlife and Environmental Exhibitors

* Lectures about the Burrowing Owl and other nature orientated topics

* Free nature hikes to observe the varied habitats and wildlife at Rotary Park

* Guided bus tours to observe the burrowing owl habitats

* Dozens of local artists showing and selling nature related arts and crafts.

* Various guest speakers who will give informative talks on various wildlife and environmental topics.

* Free Tours of the Interactive Butterfly Pavilion.

* Starter burrow demonstrations in the hopes of attracting a Burrowing Owl to your lawn.

* Silent auction

* Kids Arts and Crafts Corner

* Food vendors

All proceeds go towards the preservation and protection of our wildlife resources.

This year's event also will feature a Photographer's Birding Bus Tour with limited seating and advance registration.

Tammy and Dave McQuade, noted birders and photographers, will guide the tour. They are the only couple in eBird to have had four consecutive years of seeing more than 600 species in the Lower 48. In 2019 they saw 788 species of birds in the United States while working full-time, the 10th best U.S. year ever.
