Sewer connection letters delivered
Letters to 166 Lehigh Acres property owners telling them they may have to connect to sewers have been hand-delivered throughout the community. Utility workers hung the letters in plastic bags on doors, even if the house was vacant. The preliminary estimate of the connection cost is $6,140, and it has some people worried. “We don’t have any money for it,” said Stephanie Evans of 715 Rue Labeau Circle, a street south of State Road 82 that received 14 letters. She is unemployed and her boyfriend works part-time, Evans said. They’ve been in their house for a year and the septic tank works without a problem, she said. The letters, which were signed by systems manager Robert Sheets for the Florida Governmental Utility Authority, which owns the system, tells residents more information is being developed and that they will be kept informed.
