When the Lehigh Acres Community Planning Corporation (LACPC) contract ended with Lee County on Dec. 31, 2005, and they were told by five separate entities including their own chairman that they were no longer a governmental agency and are now a private corporation who’s interest is in gathering land planning information by what ever methods that decide on to present to a County Planner to assist in updating the Land Use plan by a deadline order to the county by the State of Florida, which is Sept. 2007. Although the County would prefer to have only one controllable group to speak for all of Lehigh Acres, the law says they cannot unless they make them an Advisory Committee, which would bring a host of legal questions and challenges from Lehigh citizens who did not give the LACPC (only 14 members) permission to speak for them. SO IS THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL---NO POWER
