A Lehigh Acres deputy who says he is planning to retire soon was honored by the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce for work in the community and especially being involved in solving an occupied burglary crime within an hour.
Capt. Ed Tamayo, commander of the Brava District, Lehigh Acres Substation, nominated Deputy Anthony Ross who along with Deputy James Erskin, responded to a burglary in progress call at a home on Farmdale Street.
The call was made in November and the victim told authorities she saw a man in her home and he was trying to force open a window.
The call was made to the Sheriff’s Office at 9:52 a.m. and at 10 a.m., Ross located the suspect behind a firm on Homestead Rd.
“There was total and convincing evidence of the suspect’s involvement in this crime. The suspect was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and was taken to the Lee County Jail. Deputy Anthony Ross is a law enforcement veteran who spent 23 years with the New York Police Dept. and six years with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office,” Tamayo said.
Ross will retire from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in January.
“It was my pleasure to nominate him for the work he did in the arrest I just mentioned and for the fine service he has given to the citizens of Lehigh Acres these past six years.
“As a veteran officer, Tony has consistently been a hard worker and displayed a nonstop good attitude toward his coworkers, citizens and me,” Tamayo said.
He was given an award by Chamber President Ro McDonald.
Also at the Chamber luncheon on Nov. 25 held at the Majestic Golf Club, Carol Misiolek, who is the director of marketing at Sterling House, an assisted living complex in Lehigh, was honored as the Chamber Member of the Month. She is an active member and was honored for her support of the Chamber’s Leads group by providing space for it to meet at the Sterling House on Business Way.
Rosie Mount, an employee of Signs Today/D’Jan’s Embroidery, was honored as the Employee of the Month. She has been active in the community.
Sally McPherson spoke to the group about the South Florida Water Management District. She told them the history of the water district and its aims to conserve water and to restore the Everglades.
This was Ro McDonald’s last monthly luncheon as president of the Chamber. Richard Thompson will become the new head of the Chamber board at a banquet in January. Members were reminded of the next Business After Hours to be held as a holiday party at Florida Community Bank on Dec. 9. There will be no monthly luncheon in December.
