Robert A. Smith

Robert (Bob) A. Smith, 57, died at his home in Lehigh Acres on Thursday, December 11, 2008.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, JoAnne (Kennedy) Smith and one daughter, Roberta Smith. His surviving siblings are Carole Lynch (husband, Eugene) of Middletown, N.J., Edward E. Smith of Estero, Fla., and George R. Smith (wife, Linda) of Lavallette, N.J. There are also four nephews, Christopher Smith, Brian Lynch, Kevin Lynch and David Smith (wife Patricia). He was predeceased by his father, George E. Smith, his mother, Ruth Smith and two infant siblings, Elaine and George Oscar.

Smith was born and raised in Newark, N.J., and graduated from Essex County Vocational/Technical High School. His family said he was a gifted, self-taught blues guitar player who started playing at age 15. In the early days, his band played the Bitter End Club and the Electric Circus in New York City. His most recent band, the Bob Smith Band, has played venues all over the Eastern half of the U.S.

Friends called at the Anderson Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 16 with funeral services held at 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to any animal rescue or shelter, the American Red Cross or a non-profit organization for the music arts.
