ECWCD Building was a joke
To The Editor,
Here are some opinions on the ECWCD decision not to build that new office building they wanted so badly. Maybe Supervisor John Boardman has not heard that Dewey Tyler will run against him in the next election. He should have done what Superintendent Desmond Barrett did and vote against raising taxes when he was first elected. Then he voted for raising taxes to buy a new building.
Mr. Miscotti, the project manager, said the costs will go up if they wait to build. We would like to enlighten Miscotti that in these times it’s a buyer’s market and prices will keep going down and there will be plenty of warning when and if the prices start rising again.
Why the supervisors hired this guy instead of him billing by the hours worked – guess what, they will pay him 4.5 percent of the total cost.
Is he a friend of the board or is it just stupid business decisions on the part of the board?
Oh, that’s right. It is our money they are spending -not their own. Cheers to new member Mike Welch; he already is saving us money by scuttling the new building nonsense.
Have they looked into the cost of a cheaper steel building? let us see: First they wanted to build a building for $9 million to rent out as a city hall for the “City of Lehigh” (with our tax money of course); now the cityhood movement failed so now the price is to build a “Taj Mahal” for almost $7 million with the expected tax income to fall below $4 million – some joke, isn’t it?
