Missing parachutist found OK in Estero Bay
A missing parachutist, who had taken part in a 16-person “sunset jump” with a group based out of Clewiston today, has been found.
Christopher Ware, 41, from Riverview, was located in an area of mangroves in the back bay behind Fort Myers Beach at about 7:20 p.m. by A Lee County Sheriff’s helicopter. He was uninjured.
The call for help was received at 6:32 p.m. and set in motion a search involving land, air, and marine assets to include the helicopter and Coast Guard vessels.
The spot where Ware was found is about a mile off the target landing zone of lower Fort Myers Beach in the area of the Holiday Inn. A pontoon boat was used to pick up Ware, who was taken to Snook Bite Marina (behind the Publix) where EMS personnel were waiting to evaluate him. P
reliminary information suggests Ware may be suffering some hypothermia but was not otherwise hurt.
According to his colleagues, Ware is an experienced jumper.
