Carl B. Snipes

Carl B. Snipes, 91, of Lehigh Acres, died Saturday, January 17, 2009. He was born December 22, 1917 in Winston-Salem, N.C., and moved here from Washington, D.C. in 1980, after a distinguished 35-year career of governmental service with the National Labor Relations Board. He was former fire commissioner of the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, a member of the SW Florida Regional Planning Council and was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dr. Piper Center for Social Services. He was very active with the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres. He was also a member of the Lee County Black History Society.

Snipes is survived by his two sons: Carl, Jr. and Michael, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his very close friend, Norma Lane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Romelia M. Snipes and his daughter, Pensy Snipes-Belton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Christ United Methodist Church of Lehigh Acres, 1430 Homestead Rd., N., Lehigh Acres, with entombment to follow in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10:00 AM on Saturday until the time of the service at the church.
