Lehigh Elementary recognized by state
The Florida Department of Education has announced that Lehigh Elementary School has been named a Title I Distinguished School for 2007/08. The school has been honored for making the greatest progress in closing the achievement gap in reading and math from 2006/07 to 2007/08.
Lehigh Elementary is eligible to represent Florida at the National Title I Conference, scheduled for February in San Antonio,Texas. The Florida DOE will select two Title I Distinguished Schools from across Florida for this honor.
“This is a great honor and reflects the dedication to helping all students by the staff at Lehigh Elementary,” said Dr. James Browder, superintendent of Schools. “I am very proud of the work they are doing we work to help all students achieve at the highest levels and Lehigh Elementary is a great example of what can be done.”
The U.S. Department of Education, along with the National Association of State Title I Directors provides an opportunity for states to honor schools that have shown exceptional results from sustaining student achievement. To be considered a Title I Distinguished School, strength must be demonstrated in the following areas:
Opportunity for all children to meet proficient and advanced levels of academic performance;
Strong professional development;
Coordination with other programs;
Curriculum and instruction to support achievement at high standards;
Partnerships among schools, parents and communities.
