By Staff | Jan 20, 2009

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said that on Thursday, January 15, at approximately 12:15 p.m., members of the Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit received a tip from Crime Stoppers that a residence located at 16401 Wildcat Drive, Fort Myers, was the scene of a possible grow house operation.

Acting on this tip, investigators went to the home and came into contact with Miguel A. Garcia, 35. Garcia granted detectives consent to search his home and property. Upon entering the home, detectives found a small marijuana plant in a bedroom closet.

A subsequent search of the premises led investigators to an empty tractor trailer in the backyard outside the home where they discovered an elaborate marijuana cultivation operation. Detectives located an additional 29 mature marijuana plants worth an estimated street value of $120,000. Garcia was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail. He was charged with one count of trafficking marijuana, one count of cultivation of marijuana and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
