Girl Scout cookies not affected by peanut butter warnings

By Staff | Jan 22, 2009

Buyers of Girls Scout cookies should not worry about the ongoing reports of bad peanut butter being used in products across the country when it comes to the local sale of Girl Scot cookies. Officials with Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast of Florida said today that neither licensed baker affiliated with Girl Scout Cookies, ABC Interbake and Little Brownie Bakers, get their peanut butter from the supplier involved in the current peanut butter warning.

FDA and other regulatory agencies have indicated that Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) is the focus of their investigation concerning a recent Salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter, said Kathy Carol, a spokeswoman with Girl Scout of Gulfcoast Florida.. “PCA does not supply peanut butter used in any variety of Girl Scout cookies” Carol said.

Girl Scouts on the Gulf Coast of Florida are currently taking orders for Girl Scout cookies through January 26. Girl Scout cookies will be delivered to local warehouses for distribution on Saturday, February 7. At that time, girls of Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida Inc. will participate in a direct sales period through March 8. (Girl Scout cookies cannot be purchased at local warehouses.)
